why the elderly should not be behind the wheel of a two ton deathtrap and why its ironic to call gigantic metal pliers the jaws of life.
- a safety awareness post by Jay Oh
Have you ever just been driving along the old dusty trail minding your own business and nodding your head to the latest hit single by that band from that genre while that DJ starts going on and on about something?
if you havent. then i dont know how to make it any less general then that. Well I could. but we're talking about North America where freedom impedes efficiency (and thats awesome).
Now. Imagine that you're driving and then all of a sudden somebody rushes in from your blindside and rams you while its a red.
now. the odds are that the kind of person who would do that would be some jerk daytona 500 wannabe, a clearly far too wasted to walk (let alone drive) person, or of course a member of the senior citizens club.
Now. dont get me wrong. I have a general level of respect for seniors (probably more than the average person) and I believe in the beautiful rights and freedoms that is the birthright of every human being. BUT
when said people are endangering lives because they have to get to country kitchen buffet for the early bird special, then we have a problem.
Driving is for people who are aware. Not for people who may start to lose their hearing, sight, control of bowels... the list is pretty long..
and even then. some people SHOULDNT drive. Im not gonna lie when i'll say that I got cut off by a fellow asian and I screamed obscenities about how North America and communist china have certain road rules.
So the question here is.
Should a minority receive some rights if they still endanger the majority?
And the answer should clearly be: no.
if prisoners cant vote, and if manslaughter is a crime, then a person behind the wheel who has almost his hearing and sight is a huge liability.
I think that the state should create chauffers who car pool for old people. Im not about to say that old people should be moved into housing communities together because that kind of sounds like auschwitz.
I mean think about it.
Old people are generally in sync in terms of their schedules. They generally do similar things, and for all intents and purposes have very little to do in their lives despite waking up at the crack of dawn.
I think that old people are like pre-teens with humongous egos, discipline and social security cheques.
And now: why it is ironic that they name huge metal pliers the jaws of life...
because jaw means its gonna get eaten.
why not the pliers of life? is it because it sounds lame?
quandry.
(i'll write funnier more engaging things sooner or later)
